On 20th December 2017, almost unreported amid the excitement surrounding the election of Cyril Ramaphosa as the new leader of the African National Congress and the onset of the holiday season, President Jacob Zuma gave assent to the International Arbitration Act 2017. With the playing field levelled, will South Africa be able to develop into an attractive seat for international arbitrations, not just those involving parties from the African continent but potentially also from further afield?
